It is Arc’s nature to explore various techniques that add value to our client’s projects in the marine environment. Recently Arc began acquiring subsurface data while performing bathymetric surveys utilizing the revolutionary electrical resistivity system “Aquares”. Aquares is capable of locating changes in subsurface geology by measuring the electrical resistivity of each material type including rock, sand, clay, silts, etc. 3D models are generated from this data providing geologists with a basis for determining the best location and number of borings necessary to accurately describe the subsurface. It is anticipated that this method of survey will decrease changed conditions. We anticipate this system may provide better subsurface data than sonar sub-bottom profiling and may assist in locating subaqueous pipelines, cables, etc.
